Dogs don’t love being put in costumes, but damn do they make some amazing superheroes.
A few nights ago, I was adding more photos to my 11 Points Pinterest boards and I started really focusing on the one of animals posing as superheroes. I quickly realized the photos I was finding were destined for more than just Pinterest — they were meant for the main stage. Plus, with people getting into Monday’s episode of 11 Points Countdown about the 11 Best Comic Book Superhero Movies, it felt like some kind of contrived synergy I just couldn’t shake.
Thus, we have a breezy, pandering dollop of Internet pastiche in the form of dogs in awesome superhero costumes. Enjoy.
1 | Green Lantern
I already like his portrayal better than Ryan Reynolds’s.
2 | Cyclops from X-Men
It’s simple, and the dog doesn’t look miserable, so that’s a plus. And it’s a lot more humane than dressing him up as Mystique.
3 | Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
It’s awfully ghetto, but when your dog is cool but rude, he doesn’t need something fancy and store bought. Sure, you do that for Donatello and maybe Leonardo, but this works perfect for Raphael. (For Michelangelo, you can go even lower budget than this.)
4 | Wolverine from X-Men
I appreciate the craftsmanship on the costume but it’s fairly incongruous with this dog. It’s like if instead of casting Hugh Jackman for the films they’d gone with Queen Elizabeth. The first.
5 | Thor
The ideal costume if you and your dog are planning to have an adventure whilst babysitting.
6 | Wonder Woman
Sometimes the costume makes the dog. Here, the dog makes the costume. This dog was born to play Wonder Woman.
7 | The Hulk
As much as this is a well-done costume, I’m not liking the green dye job… I can’t get behind anything that seems even borderline like cruelty to animals. I hope this dog channeled Lou Ferrigno, Eric Bana, Ed Norton, Mark Ruffalo and Terry Bollea and showed whomever painted him what happens when he gets angry.
8 | Hit Girl from Kick-Ass
I couldn’t find any dog versions of Catwoman, Elektra, Jean Gray, Sue Storm or Batgirl. But this female superhero costume made it. Never doubt the power of a young girl who’s an ace with weapons and curses like Kreayshawn.
9 | Batman
The look says what all costumed dogs are thinking. “When can I change out of this?”
10 | The Bride from Kill Bill
She’s not literally a superhero like the rest of these… but I wasn’t leaving this photo off the list. Plus, in the movies, she DOES kill a billion people, which makes her a superhero. (Or typhoid.)
11 | Underdog
Dressing your dog as the dog superhero? As the Gay Republicans said on The Simpsons when they were looking for a symbol and Maggie’s pink, elephant-shaped balloon flew by… “A little on the nose, don’t you think?”
