One fine collection of wonderful visual puns of songs and artists. Because good puns are the highest form of comedy.
Today’s list of 11 photos of literal music puns took me far longer to research than I expected, mostly because of all the missed opportunities out there. There were plenty of songs or artists who are just begging for visually stunning literal puns — that no one’s ever made.
Most egregiously, how has no one working at Sea World nor anyone from Greenpeace ever taken a photo of a seal literally kissing a rose?
1 | The Taylor Swift trucks
When these trucks eventually went their separate ways, do you think one of them wrote an angry break-up song about the other one?
2 | Blind Melon
Bonus points for going with a watermelon (I probably would’ve gone with the less attractive cantaloupe). If only there was a bee, or an awkward child dressed as a bee, in this photo; that would be perfection.
3 | Apparently he’d do the YMCA dance
The Village People: Finding ways to make religious folk uneasy since 1977.
4 | I just met you, and this is crazy
Back in those days, you had to call Maeby on a flip phone. But it was a good way to hear her wedding ring(tone).
5 | No Stairway? Denied
How can they put up a “Stairway 2” sign and NOT expect someone to graffiti in “Heaven”? How long do you think it took after they posted the sign? Two hours? Three? They even set it up to encourage the blind to join in on the graffiti process.
6 | Rick Rolls
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I like Never Gonna Give You Up so much that when I get Rickrolled, I’m generally happier to see the video than whatever piece of content I was originally expecting.
7 | Ice-T and his iced tea
Back when Ice-T was a rapper, there weren’t endorsement opportunities (especially for rappers who did tracks like Cop Killer). Today? If a rapper named himself Cocoa Krispy or M.C. U.S. Airways he’d have an endorsement deal in seconds. Anyway, this comes from Ice-T’s reality show, which marks the first time Ice-T has ever been documented actually drinking iced tea.
8 | A dead mouse
So… did some house music fan catch a mouse in a mouse trap, then decide to make this miniature display and pose the dead mouse on it? Or was this a premeditated diorama project, all structured around the prospects of a future dead mouse?
9 | Hammer time
Obvious? Yes, no doubt. Necessary? Absolutely. The world needs constant reminders that the correct response to “Stop” is and always will be “Hammer time.”
10 | Ice Ice Baby
Bravo to whatever parent saw this opportunity and plopped their baby down on the curb to take this photo. It’s way more clever than dumping your kid on a pile of hay to pay homage to No Doubt, and way safer than putting your baby behind the wheel with the engine running to pay homage to the Beatles
10 | It was him
Let’s get him, fellas.
