An odd mascot, ridiculous yearbook quote and moment when Jeopardy imitated SNL.

Welcome to the 17th edition of the Best Picture I Saw This Week…

Second runner up: Mr. Dingle?

The fella pictured above (not the guy in the blue shirt, the six-foot turd) is the official mascot of the Victor Valley (CA) Wastewater Reclamation Authority. His name is Mr. Dingle. I’m not sure why a public waste utility needs a mascot, but I suppose if they had to have one, he is an appropriate pick. Until a few days ago, he was floating in anonymity — then someone on the Internet noticed him and he made a giant splash. Ahem.

First runner up: Pineapple express

It’s the time of year when various kids’ standout yearbook quotes circulate around online. This girl’s is the best one I’ve seen — by far. It’s quite elegant. Particularly the “I hope you like pineapple slices on your children’s graves.” That’s some quality writing for a person who was probably mailing in a book report on The Pearl like seven months ago.

The winner!

Life imitated art (does Jeopardy count as art? If so, art imitated art) this week when Jeopardy ran with a category called “The Pen Is Mightier” — as once famously featured on a Saturday Night Live parody of Celebrity Jeopardy. Sean Connery really enjoyed mispronouncing that one.
