CNN continues its obsession with ISIS, leading to a legendary broadcasting screw-up.
About a month-and-a-half ago, I did a list of 11 screenshots of CNN’s insane ISIS coverage. It featured gems like “ISIS Lures Women WIth Kittens, Nutella”… “Ebola: The ISIS of Biological Agents?”… and “Star Wars or ISIS: Which Is More Islamic?”
CNN just blew all of those out of the water.
After the Supreme Court’s gay marriage decision, CNN, like other networks, went into full coverage of the reaction. One can only imagine how overjoyed they were when just hours later, their topic du jour and their favorite topic overall collided right into each other. (Or so they thought.)
“An unnerving sight today at a London gay pride celebration,” the anchor said, cutting to a still shot of London, “an ISIS flag among a sea of rainbow colors. A CNN international assignment editor spotted the flag and was able to snap these pictures.”
So let’s have a look at that picture…
Now… when you’re a cable news network with a deep obsession with and confirmation bias toward ISIS, yeah, that could look like its flag…
But when you’re not with CNN, you realize the writing on that flag isn’t Arabic — it’s sex toys.
Yes, CNN confused a flag made of various dildos with the ISIS flag.
They did not issue a correction.
